"Steady" Matt Forsythe has been a prolific songwriter and entertainer since childhood.  First performing in the New England and Midwest folk scene, he recorded a number of acoustic albums, starting with The Child is Father to the Man (1992) and ending with True Acoustic Confessions (1998).  After completing  a four year degree in Creative Writing he embarked upon the life of a travelling troubadour.  Highlights included a two year stint in Australia which resulted in the January Day album and a three year stay in Japan which resulted in Steady Matt:  The Japanese Album

Matt got the nickname of  "Steady" for his experience as a homesteader on a rural piece of property in West Virginia.  He lived alone on a mountain, drank moonshine and taught himself his own homegrown style of  slide bluesygrass guitar.   He started to drive his truck down off the hill and played as the resident musician at the famous Empty Glass Cafe in Charleston.  The songs and persona that followed would become the rambling, wild and always entertaining Steady Matt.

After an extensive time abroad, Matt found himself in Florida and built the "vanetarium", a Ford Econoline complete with bed, lockbox and, of course, plastic glow in the dark stars.  Based in Florida, Matt travelled the southeast living out of his van and stopping over for long stays in Asheville and Nashville and of course West Virginia.  He eventually ended up in Dunedin, Florida where he played gigs, wore flip flops and basically loved the life of a Florida beach guy!  God Bless the Dunedin Brewery!

He has recently surfaced in Manhattan and is redefining himself again.  Currently working on new recordings and solo acoustic gigs among many other things, Matt is really enjoying life in NYC and making the most of this time.  Don't be surprised if you are strolling around and hear a familiar voice spilling out on to the street.....

Steady Matt plays only bluesy, rootsy, entertaining acoustic originals and classics on a Vintage style Martin guitar... Not only can he keep you entertained, but he's also a pretty damn decent musician...  IF you can get him to shut up with the jokes and stories...  come out and take part in  his unique presence... watch him make up songs on request...
